[ add comment ]Just like his Grandma
December 29, 2004, 3:17 pm
If you know my mom well you know that she LOVES frosting. When at a wedding or birthday she often has blue or green frosting on her lips--it's her favorite part of the cake.Noah is just like his Grandma. Today we frosted sugar cookies, and he informed me that frosting is the best part of cakes and cookies.

December 29, 2004, 1:58 pm
For those of you who do not have children, there is an awful part about being a parent. It's putting together toys. I usually do not participate in this torturous task. I leave it to Papa who happens to excel in this area. Toy makers put these horrible wires on toys and sometimes even sew parts of toys to the box. It's ridiculous.Today Noah and I had to return one of his Christmas gifts as it was a duplicate. So Noah picked out a new toy. On the way home he started his campaign to get Mama to put it together. He knows Papa is at work and Mama needs lots of convincing. I told him I would give it a try but that Mama isn't good at that type of thing.
Of course it was torture. Just getting the d#$% thing out of the box was bad enough. Then I had to assemble it, and I have no spatial intelligence to figure out where parts go. I'm truly an idiot in this area.
I was getting very frustrated, and of course Noah was right in my face the whole time trying to "help." He noticed my frustration (perhaps due to a couple of yelling episodes), so he started to give me support.
He said the following things:
"I know you can do it, Mom!"
"Oh, look how much you've put together already, Mom!"
"You're doing such a great job!"
Sadly, I needed this encouragement from my 3 year old son. I got through it although step 8 & 9 had a warning that if I did it wrong it could not be taken apart and the toy would never work right. That's great. These toy makers are despicable!
So here it is all in its glory:

Santa Recycles
December 29, 2004, 1:50 pm
Santa has to be very sneaky. When Noah was younger he didn't ask questions, but now he's trying to understand the logistics of this Santa Claus character. So Santa had to be very quiet while putting together Noah's remote control train late on Christmas Eve.Today we were getting in the car and Noah discovered the box to his remote control train. Noah exclaimed, "Look Mom, Santa recycles! That's very good of him!" (The box was in the recycling bin).
Noah was quiet for a long time in the backseat, so I knew he was thinking this through. Then he said, "Well, Santa's sleigh isn't very big, so he has to put all of the boxes from the toys in people's recycling bins, you know."

Christmas enthusiasm
December 27, 2004, 12:46 pm
Noah is very enthusiastic. He gets very excited about things like Christmas and Birthdays and bursts with enthusiasm. Last Christmas he kept exclaiming, "This is the best Christmas EVER!!!" This year his reaction when opening gifts was priceless. He would exclaim, "This is EXACTLY what I wanted!" He also would yell out, "OH MY GOSH!" as he opened his gifts. Thanks for all the entertainment, Noah.[ 2 comments ] ( 25 views )
Rolling around
December 20, 2004, 3:03 pm
Lily just rolled over from her back to her front TWO TIMES. This is very exciting stuff in the life of a 4 month old. She's very proud of herself, and Noah cheered her on.Last night she went to sleep on her tummy and woke up on her back, so she must be able to roll from tummy to back too.
This morning we had a special Christmas storytime at the book store. Lily was awake (she's usually asleep during storytime), and she loved it! She laughed when the kids sang "Frosty the Snowman." Miss Heidi, the teacher, commented that Lily was quite entertained by storytime...

Brother Santa
December 18, 2004, 12:16 am
My dear friend Julie had a baby boy on the 16th--named Miles. I drove to Target today with Noah and Lily to purchase a present for Miles and his big sister Elena. While in the car Noah asked me about the baby. I told him that I was going to visit the baby and Julie in the hospital. I reminded him of our recent time in the hospital after Lily was born. Noah's response:Noah: "I wish you'd have another baby!"
Mama: "Really?"
Noah: "YEAH!"
Mama: "A brother or a sister?"
Noah: "A sister."
(Pause)
Noah: "A sister that's a boy."
Mama: "That would be a brother. A brother is a boy. A sister is a girl."
(Pause)
Noah: "What should we name him?"
Mama: "Oh, I don't know."
(Pause)
Noah: "I want to name him Santa Claus."

Noah has a new pet. A beta fish. Named Kayak. I think that's a story in itself...

Here's a little conversation I had with Noah a few days ago. He was mad at me for some reason. Anyone who lives with a 3 1/2 year old knows they get angry at authority figures quite often...Noah: I'm Mad at you, Mom!
Mama: I know.
Noah: You can't play with me ANYMORE!
Mama: Really?
Noah: YES!
Mama: Ok, because I have lots that I can do around the house...I need to vacuum, do laundry.
(Noah ponders this for a while with an angry look on his face)
Noah: You have to leave the house! You need to leave NOW!
Mama: Really?
Noah: YES!
Mama: Cool! Can I just go off by myself? Because I need a vacation! I can just go relax somewhere for a while and leave you and Papa and Lily here.
(Noah ponders this for a while with an angry look on his face)
Noah: MAMA,YOU STAY HERE AND PLAY WITH ME![ 4 comments ] ( 36 views )

The library that we go to has a neat program at Christmas time where kids can shop on their own. So I took Noah to the library today with a 20 dollar bill and a mission to buy gifts for Mama, Papa, and Lily.He was up there a long time. After about 30 minutes the woman that was helping him came down to ask me if he could get 2 gifts for Papa. Apparently Noah found 2 things that Papa just couldn't live without. I said that was fine.
So we got the bag full of wrapped gifts, and the woman tells me to have a camera ready when Papa opens his gifts. So they must be pretty good.
We took the gifts home, and Noah and I were putting them under the tree. I noticed there were 5 gifts instead of 4. The 5th gift said on the tag:

Her Papa
December 7, 2004, 3:35 pm
Lily makes the funniest noise now--all the time. I think it's called a "razz" noise. She smiles really big and has this throaty noise that involves lots of spit.A few nights ago Nathan and Lily were playing in the family room. She was laughing and making this noise, and it was fun to listen to the two of them. Then I heard Nathan go upstairs for a second and come back down. When he sat back down next to Lily she squealed with delight and was so excited that she started coughing. It was just too much for her to handle...seeing her Papa's face again.

I can do 2 entries in one day, right? I have some time today for some reason...Noah has serious volume issues. He announces everything so loudly that all can hear.
A few things Noah has said loudly in public lately:
(After walking around the mall for quite a while) "I wish my feet were wheels!"
(Same day at the mall) "I wish I was a motorcycle. Then I wouldn't have to walk!"
(Same day at the mall while looking at a small pond with goldfish) "I should have brought my fishin' pole, Mom!"
(Looking at a scooter-like wheelchair that a woman was using) "Wow, that's a cool scooter! It even has a chair on it!"
(While getting pictures taken at Sears) "I should have slept longer today. I'm tired. Why did you get me up so early Mom?"
Oh, the list goes on. Everyone knows our business...[ 3 comments ] ( 37 views )
Bad AND Good
December 6, 2004, 2:13 pm
Here is my conversation with Noah last night while he was in the tub:Noah: Carter pushed me last week.
Mama: Uh-huh.
Noah: He had to sit in the time out chair. He got in trouble.
Mama: Do you ever have to sit in the time out chair at school?
Noah: No.
Mama: Never?
Noah: No. I'm GOOD at school.
Mama: Oh?
Noah: Yeah, I'm good at school. I'm bad AND good at home.
Mama: That's true.[ 2 comments ] ( 39 views )
