I read in Parenting Magazine that it is common for a 3-5 year old to become fixated on a playmate. The preschooler will talk about a particular playmate constantly and want to spend as much time as possible with that child. I chuckled as Noah is obsessed with his friend Emily.Emily and Noah have been friends since Noah was a baby:
(I can't get over Emily in that picture)
They are like siblings. When they are together they often fight, but they also play very well together at times. Noah usually cries when he has to leave Emily. (I remind him about the fighting, but he doesn't seem to care).
Now Emily is almost 6 and in Kindergarten (big school), and Noah looks for her bus in the morning and afternoon. It's a little heartbreaking. But according to Parenting Magazine it's very normal and will pass. For now Emily is it...
In fact, Noah claims that he wants to marry Emily and that he loves her. Emily is not too keen on this idea.
Emily drew this picture (notice the hearts around Noah indicating his love for Emily):

Poor Lily
September 25, 2005, 6:49 pm
We were shopping at Target today, and I was dealing with both children. Lily was a bit out of control walking down the Halloween costume aisle. Noah was trying to decide what to be for Halloween (very serious decision for a 4-year-old).So I told Noah that I couldn't really focus and help him pick out a costume until Papa took Lily from me. Nathan came walking up and Noah said to him, "You get Lily now, Papa. I'm so sorry about that."[ 2 comments ] ( 20 views )
Sixty-thirty-one
September 22, 2005, 2:05 pm
Today in the car Noah asked: Is Grandpa Hottman forty-one?Mama: No, he's sixty-four
Noah: Hey, I'm four!
Mama: Yep, when you were born Grandpa was sixty. When you were one he was sixty-one. When you were two he was sixty-two.
Noah: When I was three he was sixty-three?
Mama: That's right.
(long pause)
Noah: So when I'm thirty-one like you will Grandpa Hottman be sixty-thirty-one?
Mama: (chuckle) Yes, and that's really old!
Noah: It certainly is! [ 4 comments ] ( 38 views )
Buddies

Noah met his friend Carter in preschool last year. This year Carter is at a different school, and Noah asks every day after preschool if Carter will be coming back. So we signed Noah up to play soccer so that he could see his friend. Unfortunately, they ended up on different teams. But they are both #2, and that is pretty cool.

September 21, 2005, 3:17 pm
Did you know that today is the last day of summer? Noah told me out of the blue today (after preschool) that he is going to, "Say goodbye to summer and a big hello to fall!" That has to be a quote straight from his teacher, Mrs. Williams. So in honor of the last official day of summer (although I don't think it's going to cool off soon), Noah insisted that we get the sprinkler out.

Lily is still very busy. We're not sure when her schedule will lighten up. The poor girl moves nonstop unless she is napping.
And I discovered today that she doesn't like sprinklers. They really piss her off...

Noah is in his first organized sport. He is playing soccer for an under 6 team. Noah is very excited about his uniform, and he loves practicing with his teammates. He doesn't always focus on the game, and he often looks back at me with a smile on his face. He's very proud. Here he is in his uniform: (I think he learned how to pose from his Aunt JJ)
And here is he playing in his 1st real game last night. His team lost 0-2, but he was ok with that because he played against his good friend Carter (boy right in front of Noah in picture)

September 13, 2005, 8:50 am
Lily has a new talent. She squeals in a high pitched voice when she wants something, when she's upset, when she's happy. Last weekend we went to Borders, and I had to leave early just to get the squealer out of there. Nathan and I told her, "NO!" whenever she would squeal. So now she will scream and then shake her head and say, "No no no no NO!"Oh dear.[ 3 comments ] ( 27 views )
Papa's birthday
September 10, 2005, 11:01 am
Today is Papa's 32nd birthday. Birthdays are always fun times for Noah. He loves picking out gifts and opening presents for people. Noah and I went shopping for Papa last week. As we entered the store Noah declared, "I'm going to get Papa 3 things. Something turkey hunting, something fishing, and something golf." Nathan has just started playing golf, and Noah is pretty excited (Noah has been playing for 2 years now).So I asked Noah what he had in mind from these 3 categories. Noah said, "I'm getting him golf clubs, a gun, and a fishing pole."
I explained that his list would cost me way too much money, so we compromised. I let Noah pick out a putter for Papa as his big gift. Then he picked out a fishing lure and a camouflage shirt. Noah was very happy with his selections.
As Noah opened Papa's gifts for him this morning he would ask, "What do you think it is?" Nathan would reply something like, "A bag of animal crackers?" Noah would say, "Noooooo I think it's something turkey hunting that you wear." My favorite was the golf club. He kept asking Papa what he thought the BIG gift was (the one that was clearly a wrapped golf club). Nathan would reply, "A walking stick?" Noah would say, "Nooooo something for golf. A golf club."
And here is Papa wearing just about all of his gifts: (Hunting shirt, scarf, slippers, camel pack, and using his new golf club)

Jack has a new best friend. Lily has loved Jack since the day she discovered he existed (around 6 months ago), but Jack just realized today how nice Lily can be (and how resourceful). Here is Lily feeding Jack chicken (his favorite food):

1st Day of School
September 7, 2005, 11:28 am
Today was Noah's 1st day of preschool. He's in the 4's class now which meets 3 days/week, so he thinks he's hot stuff. Last night he picked out his outfit to wear to school, and he woke up at 7 a.m. ready to go. It was hard to wait an hour and a half. Here he is outside of his school: (He refused to pose next to the Little Lamb sign)
He was very excited to find out that there is another Noah in his class this year. He can't wait to meet him.[ 3 comments ] ( 21 views )
