A handful

After spending lots of time with Lily last week, Grandpa declared that Lily is indeed "a handful." Nathan and I smiled, nodded, and agreed. We also use phrases such as "a piece of work" and "something else." To which Lily usually responds, "NO I'M NOT! I'M LILY!" And to which we roll our eyes.

I feel Matt captured some of Lily's energy and attitude on film. He referred to her running as "intense"...

Grandparents Galore

Grandma and Grandpa took a train to visit us for many important events and mainly for some quality time together. They picked a very exciting week to come and were able to attend Noah's open house at school, put Noah on the bus for his first day of 1st grade, and experience Lily's 3rd birthday!

They also read lots of books, played kitchen, had tea parties, played basketball, played golf, went for walks, went swimming, and played card games with Noah and Lily. Jeni and Nathan enjoyed lots of great talks on the front porch and many pots of coffee.

As we kissed and hugged them goodbye at the train station Lily asked Grandpa, "Will you come back for my next birthday party?" We sure hope they do...

3 Years Old

Lily turned 3 on August 16th. If you ask her how old she is, she carefully puts up three fingers. Grandma, Grandpa, Papa, Noah, and Mama woke Lily up by singing "Happy Birthday to you!" For a late sleeper, Lily handled the wakeup well and rushed to open her gifts and cards.

Lily insisted on a Dora birthday party with a strawberry Dora cake. Lily loves cake and couldn't wait to eat her own birthday cake. She smiled as everyone sang to her and then she took out the candles and licked them. She sat and talked to her Grandpa while she ate her cake.

Lily was exhausted by the end of her birthday and ended up in her underwear blowing bubbles and protecting her treat bag from Kevin.

Thank you to everyone for the gifts and cards! Dora is in every room of the house now...

Noah started first grade on August 16th! He already has a new friend, Andrew. He loves his desk (in Kindergarten he sat at a table) and finds it easier to write and draw on a desk. He likes his teacher Mrs. Sadoris. Most importantly he gets 2 recesses and 3 on Friday.

We were excited that Grandma and Grandpa got to meet Noah's new teacher and visit his school during open house. They also saw him off to school on his first day...

Budding vegetarian?

Lily is intrigued that I am a vegetarian. She constantly asks me if I eat certain foods and if ONLY vegetarians eat other foods.

It goes something like this...

Lily: Do you eat chicken?
Mama: No, that's meat
Lily: Do you eat salad?
Mama: Yes, vegetarians eat salad
Lily: Do only vegetarians eat salad?
Mama: No, anyone can eat salad Lily.

Last night Lily and I went to McDonalds. Lily had a small fan club of grandparents listening to her every word. She speaks at a volume that even people with hearing loss can hear loud and clear. (Not that all grandparents have hearing loss, but you get my drift).

Lily sat across from me at the table with a mouth full of hamburger...

Lily: I'm a vegetarian Mom!
Mama: (smiling) Lily, vegetarians don't eat meat. Hamburger is meat.

(Laughter from the fans)

pause

Lily: Mom can we stay here a while and just talk?
Mama: Sure Lily. What do you want to talk about?

pause

Lily: How was your day at work?
Mama: Pretty good, how about you?
Lily: I made LOTS of money at work, you want some?
Mama: Sure

(Lily reaches in her pocket for pretend money and hands me some)

(Near applause from the fans)

As we left, Lily took a little bow and signed a few autographs.

Our exhibitionist

We have a hard time keeping clothes on Lily. If she gets hot, her shirt comes off. If she spills something on her clothes, everything comes off. Last week we went to a birthday party for my friend Jean's son David. Lily was topless most of the time. She ran around the backyard in her shorts and nothing else. We were proud...
