Lily's schedule
August 31, 2005, 11:43 am
Lily is so busy these days. Ever since she really started walking (and rarely crawls) she is constantly on the move. She moves things around, opens cupboards and rearranges items, etc. Sometimes out of the corner of my eye I see her checking her planner, but that may be my imagination.Yesterday we went to the John Deere Commons (Noah's favorite stop) to look at tractors. I was a good Mama yesterday. So Noah was pretending that he was a farmer and sat in all of the tractors. (He mumbled something about plowing the fields as he went from tractor to tractor). Lily spent the entire time walking by herself around the building. She didn't want to be helped or touched or even looked at. If passerby’s stopped to comment on how cute she was, she looked very irritated and quickly took off as if she was late for a meeting.
When Lily walks she balances herself by sticking her tummy way out and flailing her arms about. If I try to hold her hand she falls down. So I've learned just to let the baby girl be. It is quite a funny site. She gets very frustrated when she falls, but she just gets up, juts out her tummy, and takes off across the room. She too is mumbling something.
Here is Lily arranging Noah's shoes (notice her very serious "don't mess with me I'm busy" face):

Nathan was recently away on business for 3 whole nights (as Noah would say). The first evening that he was gone I asked Noah what he wanted for dinner.Noah: But is Papa coming home to cook?
Mama: No, he'll be gone for 3 nights.
(Long pause)
Noah: Well, I guess we won't eat for 3 nights. We'll be hungry when he comes back.
Mama: Why won't we eat?
Noah: (laughs) YOU can't make dinner! You never make dinner.
(Long pause)
Noah: Well, I guess you know how make scrambled eggs. We can have scrambled eggs for 3 nights.
Mama: Good idea.[ 4 comments ] ( 30 views )
4 and 1

I met someone today who asked me how old my kids are. I paused and said, "4 and 1." Wow, my kids are 4 and 1.Here they are playing with Lily's dollhouse. (True, it's sweet...except that Noah is about to chuck one of the pieces across the room.)

Lily is officially 1 year old. (Yes I stayed up until 9 p.m.)Lily woke up happy. She played with ba-loooons all day. She took 2 long naps. She had a picnic with her Papa, Mama, and brother. She played in the sand. She had a Luau with lots of people who love her. She watched as her brother opened her gifts (but wasn't too interested). She got messy eating cake. She fell asleep hugging her new doll.

August 15, 2005, 9:09 pm
Today is Jack's birthday. He's 6-years-old. Yes, his birthday is 1 day before Lily's birthday. So there are lots of parties going on in the Tackett house these days. This morning we had Jack's birthday party (as we always do) complete with presents and singing "Happy Birthday." Jack seemed pretty pleased. He loves toys, so he's easy to buy for. He also loves chicken flavored dog treats.
Noah opened all of Jack's presents for him:
Noah loves birthdays.
Jack's favorite toy was a stuffed bear dressed in a bee costume. He became possessive of it, and we thought this was funny. Possessive Jack:
However, things took a wrong turn on Jack's birthday. Lily and I went upstairs to get dressed while Noah stayed downstairs with Jack. A few minutes passed and I heard a growl and a cry. Noah came running upstairs yelling that Jack had bit him. Sure enough he had 3 tooth marks on his hand. Noah tried to take the precious bear/bee away from Jack, and Jack bit him. Great family dog, eh?
So Noah cried (and cried a little more for attention). Then he asked me very seriously, "Do you have Jesus’ phone number?" (Not a question I get every day.) I said, "No...why?"
Noah explained, "Well, I want to call Jesus and have him put Sam on the phone and ask her to come back to us so that we have a NICE dog that doesn't bite!"

Pooh and Piglet
August 9, 2005, 4:01 pm
Noah and Lily remind me of Pooh and Piglet. Noah has a big belly and loves to eat. Lily is small with a pink nose. So my friend Julie saw a Piglet costume for Halloween and told me about it. What a great idea to have Lily as Piglet this year. So I asked Noah if he would be Pooh (knowing that he is set on being Batman).Noah thought about it for a while and said, "Well, I'll be both but I'm going to be Batman for school and for trick-or-treating." I asked if he would wear a Pooh costume for pictures with Lily. He said, "Sure, but when I'm Batman I'll be a Batman who beats up Winnie the Pooh."

I was just thinking how nice it is not being pregnant this summer. I don't recommend timing the end of your pregnancy to hit in August. We had a mild summer last year, and I was still miserable. Of course the outcome was well worth it, but let's reminisce...1 year ago:

Lily is saying more and more words these days. My favorite is when she uses an adjective for objects. For example, whenever I'm drinking coffee around her I say, "No, Lily...hot." So now she points to coffee and says, "HOT! HOT!" When I give her a bath she always wants the soap. One day I let her hold the soap and she started to eat it. So now I tell her, "No...yucky." So of course she points to soap now and yells, "YUCKY!"Lily's favorite word is ball. She asks for balls everywhere she goes. She yells out, "BALL!" and then I look around and sure enough there will be something round in her view--a tomato, the nose on a stuffed animal, etc.
Lily has started saying a few two word phrases. When we give her something to eat she often says "thank you." She also yells out at us when we put her in bed. She says, "night night! love you!"
In the morning Lily usually asks, "Jackie?" first thing. She wakes up thinking about her Jackie. When we go to Matt and Dawn's house and see their dogs she calls them Jackie too.

New Shoes
August 7, 2005, 2:38 pm
We bought Lily her first pair of shoes today (you know I don't believe in babies who don't walk wearing shoes). I was struck by the difference in the size of my children's feet. Noah's first pair of shoes were size 6 triple wide. Lily's first pair of shoes were size 3 (normal width). The girl has little feet. (Or does the boy have big feet?)[ 2 comments ] ( 21 views )
She walks
August 2, 2005, 7:20 pm
Yep, Lily is walking. She officially started walking on August 1st (her friend David's 2nd birthday!) Lily took 12 steps yesterday. Today she made it across the room. But we can't cheer too loudly or she gets excited and falls down. She prefers to walk with something in her hands--Noah's sandals, a ball, or her piglet...
And in just 14 more days she'll be 1![ 3 comments ] ( 27 views )
