Dinner with a Ballerina and a Baseball Player

July 30, 2009, 3:01 pm

This summer has been filled with baseball. Noah made the All Start team for Riverdale Pee-Wee boy’s baseball, and he has played a number of tournaments, games, and practices. He had a great time having so many opportunities to play. He practices daily, and he greets Papa at the door with his mitt in hand asking to play catch.

Noah loves the Cubs and especially the 1st baseman Derek Lee. He would like to play for the Cubs one day and replace Lee when he retires. Lee is 6'5", so Noah is also hoping to be very tall. Noah, Nathan, and I have enjoyed watching lots of Cubs games this year. They even turned me into a Cubs fan.

Lily is old enough to play soccer this fall, so I asked her if she would like to sign up. She responded, "I don't like sports! I want to dance!" So I signed Lily up for dance class at the YMCA. She absolutely loves it. Her teacher, Jennifer, is fantastic and teaches the students dance routines that Lily then practices with me at home. Lily is a very good listener and always follows directions during dance class. She doesn't even look at me watching through the glass. She takes dance very serious.

One evening Lily had dance class and then Noah had a baseball game. At 8:00 p.m. we were all very hungry, so we stopped at a diner for a late dinner (actually we all ate breakfast.)

I was struck by the fact that I was having dinner with a ballerina and a baseball player.

First Tackett Campout: Good times, good times...

July 1, 2009, 7:54 am

In honor of my dear friend Swifty's birthday, we went camping at Sugarbottoms campground (that's right). If you know me at all then you know that I do not camp. But for Melissa's birthday she wanted to go camping, and I decided to give it a try. Nathan and the kids were very excited that Mama was willing to go on a camping trip.

I took the advice of my friend Michelle and brought a blow-up mattress and fan. A fan is really a lifesaver in a tent. The white noise and air flow allowed me to have a good night sleep.

We had a wonderful time hanging out with the Swifts. Sophie and Lily were adorable together. Noah and Sophie also had some cute interactions, and of course we all enjoy Alexia's company. We went swimming in the lake, talked by the campfire, had lots of coffee and pancakes for breakfast, and went boating in the morning. We even jumped off the Swift's boat and swam in the lake (very exciting for all).

Alexia and I swam around the lake to help me prepare for my first triathlon in August. I was pretty freaked out by open water (and murky water at that), but the second time around I was able to swim without stopping. A little snake even got in the water with me. Eeek.

The morning we had to leave Noah asked, "Can we please stay one more night?" Perhaps there will be more camping in our future...
