4 Sophies
July 24, 2007, 7:23 am
We attended the elephant's birthday party at the zoo last weekend. I told Lily about the possibility of going, and she asked me about the elephant's party all week. So we had to go. Lily loves birthday parties (mainly the cake) and elephants. At the zoo Lily learned that the elephants are named Babe and Sophie. Lily thought about this for a long time and then in the car on the way home she declared...
"I know 4 Sophies! Two dogs, one elephant, and one girl! Only one of them talks...but they all poop."[ 2 comments ] ( 17 views )

Papa completed his 2nd triathlon last weekend. Noah, Lily, and I were there to cheer him on. Noah said, "I want to do triathlons when I'm 16!" so perhaps I'll be watching lots of these over the next 20 years...We were excited to stay at a hotel with a pool and hot tub. Noah and I stayed up swimming until 10 p.m. the night before the triathlon. Papa and Lily had to get their rest. We felt like rebels.
This triathlon was longer than the first and included a 3K swim, 40K bike ride, and 10K run. Noah ran with Papa through the finish line, and he keeps the medal from the triathlon in a special place on his desk.
We don't know how he was smiling at this point. Papa took time to hug us before he went off on his 10K run.

Lily is now almost exclusively called Lulu, Lu, or Lulu Black Bear. Lily loves the book "Kiss Goodnight Lula", and she calls the rabbit Lulu instead of Lula. So Papa started to call Lily Lulu and she would say, "No, I'm Lily!" Papa always dresses Lily in a shirt with a black bear on it, and he lengthened her nickname to Lulu Black Bear. Lily loves it, and the name seems to fit her.Lily has grown up a bit in the past few months. She loves to go off and play with the "big kids" (Noah and Emily) or watch a movie before bed and stay up a little later. She started using the potty and tells us that she's not a baby anymore. But she's still the same carefree soul and tells us "NO!" a lot and spends quite a bit of time on the stairs in time out.
Lily is obsessed with Dawn's new dog Pancho Villa. She wants to hold him all the time and is a little too rough with him, so we have to watch her carefully.
Above all Lily never stops talking. Sometimes we don't know what she's even talking about. She has lots and lots to say which can be quite entertaining at times. Noah asks to go into work with me about once a week to get a break. He said, "I have a headache because Lily is such a chatterbox."
I think we captured some of Lulu's personality on film...

Uncle Preston, Uncle Jason, Cousin Lauren, and Cousin Evan visited us 4th of July week! We had lots of fun swimming, lighting sparklers, playing at the park, and even running races. Preston, Nathan, and Jeni ran a 10K on 4th of July. Lauren ran a 1 mile race, and Noah ran the kid's dash.Last year Noah fell during the dash and was very upset. He wanted to run again this year, and he did great. He had a look of determination as he passed kids at the end of the dash.

This year was Noah's 2nd t-ball season. Noah has recently developed a love for baseball and spends hours watching the Cubs play with his Papa. He picked up on some outfield plays and paid close attention during his games.Noah loves practicing hitting and playing catch. He's always ready to practice in the backyard.
Here's Noah at his last game of the season...
