She talks

July 25, 2005, 11:35 am

Lily has become very verbal lately. Here are her words:

Mama
Papa
Jackie
Jack
Cracker
Ball
Hot (referring to my coffee)
Night night
Banana
Baby

Last week she was sitting on the couch with me eating a banana, playing with a ball, and looking at Jack. She kept saying, "JACKIE! BALL! NANA!"

She is also very loving towards her stuffed animals and doll (she has a cloth doll that she calls baby). Before naps and bedtime I give her baby and piglet. She kisses them multiple times and hugs them. As I walk out of her room I can hear her lips smacking.

First Movie

July 23, 2005, 4:48 pm

We live in great times. A time when a mom and a 4-year-old can watch a Johnny Depp movie and both are thoroughly entertained.

I'm proud to say that the 1st movie at the movie theater that Noah has watched in its entirety (without driving me crazy) was "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." That's my boy.

(I wonder if "Pirates of the Caribbean" would be too scary.)

(I had children at the perfect time.)

VBS

July 21, 2005, 9:21 pm

Noah loves to sing. Noah loves Jesus. This week he had his first experience at Vacation Bible School (VBS). This is a place where he could sing about Jesus all morning long. Let's just say he enjoyed the experience.

He came home every day from VBS and performed for Lily and me. Here is Noah singing one of his VBS songs:

He sings very loudly and forgets most of the lyrics. He often goes back to a line about Jesus loving us.

On Tuesday Noah came home and was very excited to teach me the sign for love. He crossed his arms over his chest and then had me do the same.

Tonight VBS had a program for the parents in which the children sang all of the songs from the week. I sat right in front of Noah. He was intense the entire program. All of the other 4-year-olds were looking the wrong way and talking to each other. Not Noah. He looked out at the audience the entire time and very seriously sang all of the songs and did the hand motions as well.

My favorite part was when he did the sign for love. He looked at me and almost smiled but managed to keep a straight face. He was bursting with pride.

A few of my friends and some parents I didn't know went up to Noah to tell him how great he was. He obviously takes singing about Jesus very seriously.

11 Month Comparison

July 20, 2005, 12:07 pm

Lily turned 11 months old last weekend. I know...it's hard to believe. The 1st year goes by so much faster when you're chasing a preschooler around.

And I had to compare my 2 babies once again. Looking at these old pictures of Noah just kills me (pretend kills).

Noah and Lily eating:

Noah and Lily walking behind walker:

Noah looks so ornery in the highchair, and Lily looks so sweet. If the trend continues (as Noah remains quite spirited) then I'm set.

Car Conversations

July 11, 2005, 11:52 am

Noah and I have the greatest conversations in the car. I often have the radio on, and then he starts talking and I turn it off. He's much more entertaining.

Today on the way to Theresa's house we had the following conversation:

Noah: Will we see Papa running to work on our way?
Mama: Probably not. His work is the other way.
Noah: Oh. He runs really fast. He has BIG muscles.
Mama: Yes he does.
Noah: He is the biggest muscle Papa.
Mama: Oh?
Noah: Matt doesn't have big muscles like Papa. Or Victor.
Mama: True.
Noah: Is Troy a Papa? His baby is Huck, right? So he's a Papa.
Mama: Yep, Troy is a Papa.
Noah: Papa AND Troy have the biggest muscles.
Mama: You think so?
Noah: Yes.
Mama: TROY has big muscles?
Noah: The biggest. and Papa.

So here's a shout out to the lawful bros. In Noah's eyes, you are the biggest Papas.

Noah's music

July 7, 2005, 9:18 pm

I got a free cassette tape walkman from work today. It came in a gift bag, so I decided to give it to Noah. Noah loves gifts, and he doesn't have his own walkman. Boy was Noah excited. He even listened to some "music" (actually a book on tape) while he ate dinner tonight. He would yell at us while he was listening to it. Here is Noah listening to his music and eating spaghetti:

More Noahisms

July 6, 2005, 10:00 pm

A few things Noah said today that made me laugh...

(While eating dinner)
(Noah spits)
Mama: Noah, don't spit at the table.
(Noah spits again)
Mama: Noah! I said don't spit at the table!
Noah: I didn't spit at the TABLE. I spit at YOU.

(Dressing Noah in his p.j.'s)
Noah: These shorts are too tight!
Mama: Really? Where are they too tight?
Noah: They have been in my butt crack ALL DAY!

Fireworks

July 5, 2005, 1:44 pm

A few of Noah's fears:
vacuums
blenders
train whistles
fireworks

Do you notice a theme? Noah is scared of loud noises. So yesterday on the 4th of July we were unsure of his reaction to the fireworks. I told him we could stay home, but he was determined to go. He spent the whole evening talking to himself and others about how loud the fireworks would be. He was a nervous wreck.

When the fireworks started, he was on my lap. He was immediately scared--not so much of the noise but because he thought they were going to fall on us. He ended up sitting behind me, and when I looked back to check on him he was looking at the ground rather than the sky.

This morning Noah woke up at 10:00 a.m. (after a very late night for him) and exclaimed, "I LOVED THE FIREWORKS! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT 4TH OF JULY!"

Bless his heart...

night night

July 4, 2005, 8:50 am

Lily weaned herself at 10 months, so our night time ritual has changed. Instead of feeding her before bed, I rock her and sing to her. Then I put her in bed and say "night night" and leave the room. Lately she laughs at me when I sing to her. I am a pretty bad singer. But when I put her down she still goes to sleep.

Last night I put her down in the crib and as I left she yelled back at me, "night night!"
