Good Times

We just had a wonderful week full of fun with the Schremmers. Aunt JJ, Uncle Troy, and Huck came all the way from New York City to spend a week with us. They celebrated Noah's birthday, went to the premier of their movie Chalk in Chicago, and spent lots of time relaxing and playing at our home. While JJ and Troy were in Chicago, we were Huck's first overnight babysitter. Huck immediately adjusted to being one of the Tacketts. He enjoyed going to the zoo with Nathan and Lily. He watched Noah play in his first t-ball game. He gave his Aunt Jeni lots of kisses.
Our final day together was a beautiful day. We spent the morning at the zoo. We spent the afternoon at the Kruses pool swimming and relaxing in the sun and daydreaming about our next visit together.
We miss you Schremmers!

Lily and Huck deserve their own blog entry. While Nathan and I had work and Noah had school, Lily and Huck had lots of time to bond. We weren't sure if they would get along considering their age (they are both 2-years-old). But they surprised all of us. They managed to share most of the time. They enjoyed swinging, playing in the sandbox, drawing, painting, running through the sprinkler, playing with playdoh, watching Potty Time, playing with chalk, and going to the zoo two times.Huck and Lily even had some pretty deep conversations about diapers, underwear, gender, and goldfish crackers.
They also happen to make an adorable pair...

Noah turned 6-years-old on May 22nd and celebrated his real birthday all day long. His Aunt JJ, Uncle Troy, and Cousin Huck came to visit him on his birthday. He woke up to presents and fun in the front yard. At school his Mama brought him a Happy Meal for lunch. Then Aunt JJ and Mama brought treats for his class party. After school Noah had a special Star Wars themed birthday party with family and close friends. He had fun riding his new scooter with Elena and Emily. He got lots of Star Wars and other toys for his birthday. He had a super cool Darth Vader cake decorated by his Uncle Troy. He played kick ball in the back yard with Papa and Matt.
What more could a 6-year-old boy ask for?

Noah had his "fake" birthday party with friends on May 20th at the YMCA. He even told his friends that this was his "fake" party and his real birthday party would take place at home on his real birthday, May 22nd.Noah and his friends were incredibly rowdy. A room of 6-year-old boys and only a few 6-year-old girls is quite a sight. Some tears were shed but all in all the kids had a great time.
Happy Fake Birthday, Noah!
(the cake and presents were real)

Noah graduated from Kindergarten last week! He received a glowing report card and managed to stay on green every day (which means he listened well and did not get too many reminders). Noah came home with his Kindergarten journal, which shows his progression in writing and drawing. Each day he wrote his name, a sentence, and a drawing for the day.Noah's best friend from school is Cade. (Luckily Cade also lives down the street.) Noah enjoys playing with blocks and legos at school. His favorite subject is math. He loved raising his very own caterpillar and watching her transform into a Monarch butterfly.
Noah will miss his classmates, classroom, and especially his teacher, Mrs. Kincaid. He assured me that he will get to see Mrs. Kincaid even though he is going on to 1st grade, so I shouldn't be sad.
Here are some Kindergarten highlights:

Last weekend we went to Kansas to see Uncle Jason (a.k.a. Sledgehammer) graduate from college. We think Sledgehammer is pretty smart. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in physics. Noah came with us to the graduation ceremony. He was so excited to see Jason's name in the program. He was even more excited to yell, "Yeah Sledgehammer!" when Jason received his diploma. Nathan and I gave our importance-of-attending-college speech, and Noah assured us that he would go to college and receive A's just like his Uncle Sledgehammer...

Somehow Evan and Lily got along (most of the time) during a visit to Kansas. They are almost 3-years-old, so they have a lot in common. They like to jump, swing, throw an occasional tantrum, and ride tricycles. They even managed to share...
Ahhhh...

Noah needed new shoes, so I took him to the mall and asked him to pick some out. I showed him some Spiderman and Power Ranger shoes, but he wanted "sneakers." He explained that shoes with characters on them aren't cool in Kindergarten. So Noah picked out some sketchers. I was a little sad.Last night Nathan told Noah it was time to cut his hair (which sticks straight up when it gets too long). Noah asked if he could have a mohawk. Nathan left it up to me (great), and I couldn't think of a reason why not.
In many ways Noah seems like he's growing up too fast. But on Sunday Noah met Spiderman at the mall and had his picture taken with him. I tucked Noah in Sunday night, and he said, "I didn't know Spiderman was real Mom! He was so nice to me!"

Pinky's Princess Bike
May 6, 2007, 8:24 am
Lily inherited Emily's princess bike. All day long Lily asks if she can ride her bike down to the circle (cul-de-sac), and we follow her leaned over to help her steer. Lily can pedal on her own but has no idea that her hands help her steer. I gave her a speech on steering, and she looked at me with a blank stare. Sometimes she goes straight by accident, but usually she ends up near the curb. She chats happily while she bikes, and she tells us what a big girl she is on her new princess bike. We're pretty sure she's the cutest bicyclist around...

On May 1st, Noah woke up with a big smile on his face. He exclaimed, "It's May! It's my birhthday month! It's May Day! AND I'm the helper at school today!"
