Lily Starr Tackett

April 25, 2010, 10:30 am

Lily recently asked me why she can't keep her name when she gets married. She said sadly, "I just love my name: Lily Starr Tackett." I told her that she could keep her name and gave her an example of a friend who kept her maiden name. Then I told her about the option of hyphenating her name. And then I told her she could do what I did and take her husband's last name.

Lily said simply, "No, I want my husband to take my name."

That's my girl...

Go Cubs Go!

April 25, 2010, 10:22 am

Nathan came up with a plan for a fun family weekend and our first Cubs game of the season (Lily's first Cubs game ever). He got tickets for the Cubs-Brewers game in Milwaukee, and we headed up on Friday as the kids were out of school. Since we're zoo people we started off at the zoo and saw some amazing animal tricks. Noah declared that he could have watched the spider monkeys and their tricks all day, and we agreed with him. We also saw some friendly penguins, hippopotamus, elephants, tiny fennec fox, peacocks, and swimming polar bear.

After the zoo we headed to the Brewers stadium for an exciting Cubs game. I was excited to see the Cubs play as I became a Cubs fan just last year. My favorite player is Derek Lee, and we had a great view of first base.

Noah is completely into baseball and a big-time Cubs fan, so he was in heaven. Lily was more about the snacks and the Brewers fans. We sat in front of a couple that cheered for the Brewers and Lily just started at them. We ended up talking to them throughout the game and Lily finally accepted that there are people out there that cheer against the Cubs.

The Cubs won 8-1! We got really close to Derek Lee!

We also enjoyed some hotel pool swimming which is always Lily's high of any trip.

We're planning lots more Cubs game for the summer. Noah's goal is at least 4 games which would be one more than last year. Go Cubs Go!

Mother's Confession

April 15, 2010, 8:43 am

My friend Melissa laughed so hard at this story and insisted I record it on the kids' blog. Last week I got a hankerin' for some chocolate. It was 9:00 p.m. and the kids were asleep and the only chocolate available was in their Easter stashes. I'm too scared to open Lily's door as she needs her beauty sleep, so I tip toed into Noah's room. I opened his desk drawer as quietly as I could to reach in for a little peanut butter cup.

Noah sat straight up in bed and said, "Mom! Make sure to check my homework and sign my planner." I was so shocked that I screamed a little and jumped and then said, "Sure babe!"

The next morning I asked Noah why he was still awake at 9:00 p.m. to which my son replied, "You woke me up Mom! I know you were taking my Easter candy! Nice!"

Our Big Boy

April 14, 2010, 8:40 pm

Noah is almost 9 years old. He is 75 pounds of…well…pure boy. He loves sports of every kind (especially golf and baseball these days) and war. He’s a World War II buff and can be found with his nose in a war book spouting off facts I didn’t even know. He also loves Little House on the Prairie books which I can actually relate to. Overall we treat Noah pretty much like an adult and expect a lot out of the kid.

Over Easter weekend, we spent time in Kansas with family. On Easter morning we went over to Grandma Tackett’s house for a yummy lunch. When we got there, Grandma informed the kids that she heard the Easter Bunny the night before and believed there may be some gifts hidden in her house. The kids went on their hunt, and Noah found a baseball bunny. I thought for sure that my big almost 9-year-old boy would not want a bunny for Easter. Little did I know…

Noah cuddled with “Bun Bun” on the 9 hour car drive home. I kept looking back to find him hugging his new stuffed toy. He sleeps with his bunny every night. Perhaps Grandma Tackett, mother of 3 boys, knows my boy a little better than I realized! He maybe be a big kid who loves war and plays sports, but he’s also still a kid who loves a stuffed bunny just like the next kid.

Good job, Grandma!!

Tackett #22

April 10, 2010, 8:47 am

My favorite number is 22. I'm crazy about it...always have been. You know the story of when I was pregnant with Noah, right? He was due on June 7th, and we didn't know if the baby was a girl or a boy. Months before he was born Nathan dreamed that I went into labor early and had a boy on May 22nd. I laughed when I heard this dream as that would be soooo early, but on May 21st I went into labor. Then when I started pushing an hour before midnight of May 22nd, I told Nathan that this baby better not take more than an hour to push out. You've seen Noah's head size, right? So on May 22nd, 2001, at 1:07 a.m. I gave birth to my baby boy. His birthday was our ATM pin because 5 is Nathan's favorite number and 22 is mine. (We've changed our pin number since then...so don't get any bright ideas.)

Wow, I didn't realize I was going into that long of a story. Last night Noah had baseball practice for the Jr. Rams. They received their awesome uniforms with their names on the back (first time Noah has had a uniform that fancy) and white pants and a black hat with their number on it. The boys got to pick their number and guess what number my boy picked?

Boy's Best Friend

April 10, 2010, 8:41 am

Noah loves Lola. What warms my heart the most is that Noah was 3 years old when Sam died (Lola is Sam's clone), and now Noah is having a chance to love a really great dog (no defense Jack)...and the feeling is mutual.

Golf Fever

April 10, 2010, 8:36 am

My Dad is quite the golfer and has been golfing with Noah since he was 3. He bought Noah a nice set of golf clubs and whenever Noah visits him they golf. The problem is that Noah doesn't ask to golf much when his Grandpa isn't around...UNTIL NOW. Since our visit to Kansas over Easter weekend, Noah can't get enough golf. He asks to go to the driving range many times a day (even went there once when it was closed) and is willing to spend his own money for a bucket of balls.

Grandpa, your wish has come true:

Since our trip to the Grand Canyon, Noah and Lily get along much better now (knock on wood), and Noah even helped Lily learn to golf:

Yesterday Noah asked me to get him in a first tee program. What is that anyway? Oh, Grandpa!

Right now we are on the road on our 6 ½ hour trip all the way to Nebraska. We have rented a really cool car. It has a lot of room. We will get to the hotel we are going at 10:00 pm. I really love the view from the car window. I wonder what the hotel will be like. We drove 415 miles today.

March 27, 2010
This morning we swam. Today it rained and it was windy. We also saw and went to this cool Military Museum and we got to take a ride in a half track. I also got to buy some toys. Right now I am looking out of my window and in a field there is a bunch of cows. I wonder what the hotel tonight will be like.

Welcome to Colorado by Lily Tackett

Tonight we went into a pool that was 104 degrees F. Isn't that cool?

Today we only have to drive 3 ½ hours and when we get there we will hike and when it gets dark we'll go in the hot tub.

Tonight we also get to sleep in a cabin. Today is going to be good to be hiking because we have really good weather unlike yesterday.

Right now we have a really good view of the mountains. We just saw a bunch of elk cross a stream. We just stopped at the Colorado national monument. We went exploring and they had some really cool rocks and it had really good views. We were just hiking and it was a really fun time. We also saw a balancing rock.

We have finally made it to the Grand Canyon! Whenever we see something cool my sister says What?

March 30, 2010
Today is a really fun day because we get to go hiking in the Grand Canyon and we also got to do this junior ranger thing. You have to fill our four pages of this workbook and go to a cool thing where they give you information. The one we went to was about condors. I got all four pages done and got a badge.

I bet you really want to see the Grand Canyon. It is so deep and it had a ton of different colored rocks.

Today we are going to explore the Grand Canyon. Then we will drive to the desert. Right now we are on our way to the painted desert and we have to go through this really big dust storm. It is really windy when we were just at the gas station I was trying to open my door. I couldn't do it.
