Dentist appointment

January 21, 2005, 5:20 pm

Noah and I had a dentist appointment today. This was Noah's 2nd cleaning, and he did great. He was a little unsure at first and asked if he could come back next week, but we convinced him to get in the chair. He was annoyed that the dentist had to count his teeth when the hygienist already did, but he let him. He has 4 more teeth than he did 6 months ago. I didn't realize Noah was "teething." He says it doesn't hurt at all.

I remembered a funny thing that occurred at Noah's 1st dentist appointment 6 months ago. He was quite scared, and the nice hygienist named Amy was talking to him and trying to make him feel comfortable. Then it was time to get him in the chair. He sat down, and Amy lowered the chair so that he would be lying down. But Noah stayed sitting straight up. He was scared to death to lean back on that chair. Amy and I took the next 20 minutes (truly not an exaggeration) coaxing Noah to lean back into the chair. He was so serious and concerned and just sat there straight up. Finally I had him use his hand to feel where the chair was, and then he slowly (VERY SLOWLY) lowered down to the chair.

Amy and I were trying very hard not to laugh. We used some code language to reminisce about it today, and we laughed heartily.

Noahisms

January 20, 2005, 10:32 am

My favorite lines from Noah over the past few days:

"Oh, good. These vanilla wafers don't taste like mud."

"When I'm five I'm going to be big big big big big. I'm going to be bigger than Papa.
(pause)
You know I'll need a racecar when I'm five."

"Did you know poop is from food and potty is from drink?"

"Mama, you're the HUGEST!"

Lily update

January 20, 2005, 10:30 am

This is the Lily Log after all. Lily has been very busy learning all sorts of new things. She turned 5 months old last Sunday. She started eating vegetables, and she loves them. So far she has enjoyed sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots. I knew Lily would love to eat solids because she started watching me eat when she was just a few months old. She would laugh and drool while she watched me chew my food. Her favorite food right now is oatmeal--just like her Mama.

Lily can roll over like a pro. She rolls from front to back and back to front. Sometimes she rolls all the way across the room which is quite entertaining for Noah.

Here is a proud look after she rolled over:

Her latest accomplishment is getting up on her knees and rocking. She's getting ready to start crawling!

Lily has also discovered her index finger. She can point, and she contantly looks at her hand and points her finger. I need to get a picture of her pointer.

Oh, how quickly they grow!

Hey Girl

January 7, 2005, 10:43 am

Noah LOVES his sister. He is so sweet to her. I knew he would be a great big brother, and it's so fun to watch as he gets more and more involved with Lily. He loves to play with her and bring toys to her. When I have to go into another room he likes to "watch her" for me, and he lies next to her and talks to her.

When he gets out of preschool he runs to hug and kiss his Lily. He tells her that he missed her when he was at school.

And now Lily is responding to Noah. She laughs and smiles at him. Seeing the two of them interact is the greatest thing as a Mom.

Nathan and I refer to Lily as "girl." I love is hearing Noah talk to Lily and calling her girl. He always says, "Hey, girl!" "It's o.k. girl." "I love you, girl."

Stink

There has been a request to put this story on the blog. I wasn't sure...but here goes.

First off, Noah often refers to clothing as "dress." We tell him it's time to get dressed, so he thinks his clothes are dress.

I was doing dishes and wearing a long sweater with a belt tied in the back. Noah kept pulling on the belt, and it was driving me crazy. I told him to leave me alone a few times, and then I decided to get him good. I had a bit of a gas problem that day, so I let out a horrible smelling fart.

Then I waited...

Two minutes later Noah yells, "Your dress is smelling me up!" and he ran out of the kitchen.

Oh, I have laughed many times over that one...
